Distinctive Unit Insignia
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure (Teal Blue), on a mountain range of three peaks issuant from base Sable fimbriated Or a tomahawk bend-sinisterwise Argent (Silver Gray) surmounted by a lightning flash bendwise of the third. Attached around bottom and sides of the shield is a bipartite Teal Blue scroll doubled and inscribed "ROCK SOLID" and "STRIKE HARD" in Gold.
Teal blue is reflective of the elements of multiple branches that make up the Special Troops Battalion team. The black mountains refer to the steep, mountainous terrain of Korea and are adapted from the coat of arms of the 102d Military Intelligence Battalion, reorganized as the Special Troops Battalion. The lightning flash signifies the seeking, gathering and dissemination of information, indicative of the 102d Military Intelligence Battalion and the 122d Signal Battalion contributions in forming the battalion. The tomahawk recalls the Second Infantry Division or Warrior Division, the roots of the Special Troops Battalion, Second Infantry Division. It also represents the warrior ethos of the battalion personnel.
